Marion Fleming

Marion Louise (nee Hediger) Fleming, of Godfrey, Illinois, passed away after a lengthy illness, on March 21, 2016, at her home. Born in Highland, Illinois, on August 20, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Edward and Ada (Habbegger) Hediger.

On May 2, 1953, she married Thomas Joseph Fleming, Jr. and enjoyed 30 years together, before he passed away in 1983. Surviving are their children, Thomas Joseph (Kathleen) Fleming III, Patrick (Rosemary Young) Fleming, Marion Lotie (Nelson) Miller, Jane Fleming, Susan Fleming, son-in-law, Gerry Kulp; and grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth Kulp (Daniel Davis), Michael (Becky Frost) Kulp, Eileen

(Dr. Travis) Olson, Thomas (Melissa) Kulp, Mary Pat (Kris) Dalbec, Trevor Kulp, Joseph Kulp, John (Helen) Fleming, Michael (April) Fleming and Anne Fleming; and nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marion was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Edward Hediger, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Fleming. She dearly loved her family and extended family including her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and cousins, and truly enjoyed the company of her many wonderful friends.

Marion was educated at the University of Illinois and SIU-Carbondale. She taught second grade for thirty-three years for the Alton School District, retiring in 1991. Following retirement, she volunteered at the Ursuline convent and as a tutor for Project Read at Lewis and Clark Community College.

As per her request, cremation services will be provided by Gent Funeral Home and a mass, celebrating her life, will be held at St. Ambrose Church in Godfrey on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. A burial service will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ursuline Sisters, St. Ambrose Church or St. Paul’s UCC Church in Jamestown, Illinois.
