Shirley Crews

Shirley Ann Crews, 82, passed away peacefully at 2:30 p.m Thursday, March 31, 2016 at home with her family by her side.

Born in Wood River on February 27, 1934, he was the son of Earl and Helen (Fisher) Calvin.

Raised in Wood River, she was crowned, "Queen of the City" in 1951, attended and graduated from East Alton Wood River in 1952, having been head majorette for the band.  Following high school, she worked for Union Electric, Hartman's Jewelers, Midwest Carpet and Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.  She then went to work for Pepsi-Cola from which she retired.  After her retirement, she was the church secretary of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights.

Her family was always the most important thing to her. She loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend.

On April 10, 1954 in Wood River, she married Billy V. Crews.  He died August 29, 2014.

Surviving are a son, Greg (Kathy) Crews; daughter, Tracy (Tom) Scoggins; four grandchildren, Miranda and Leland Scoggins, Jessie (Brent) Springer, Jake Crews; three great grandchildren, Kansas Scoggins, Claire and Reese Springer; sister, Audrey (Nick) Nischwitz; special friend, Charlene Holmes; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; grandson, Zachary C. Crews; and brother, Dean Calvin.

Shirley will be sadly missed by all that knew her and loved her.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.  Rev. Daryl Fansler will officiate.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church where she had been a member.
