Bette A. Walter, 86, passed away at 11:28 am Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 25, 1929 in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of Berkley F. and Ella A. (Yost) York.
Bette worked as an accountant for Owen Illinois Glass for 30 years before retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church. Bette was an avid bowler; she enjoyed puzzles, painting, Swedish Weaving, tennis and Cardinal’s baseball.
She is survived by two children, Donna Billingsley of Alton, Lu Ann Cowan of Springfield, MO; six grandchildren, Abby (Bob) Alagna, Austin Cowan and fiancé Christa Anderson, Jacob Cowan, Chad Billingsley, Rachael “Racey” Beane, and Bethany “Buffy” Billingsley; three great grandchildren, Aubrey, Avery and Declan; one brother, Gerald (Louise) York of Salt Lake City, UT; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Berkley York Jr., Vernon “Bob” York and Celeste (York) Carr.
Bette will be sadly missed by family, friends, including the O.I. girls retirees luncheon group.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton with Father John Luong, O.M.V celebrant.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
