Herbert Ohley

Herbert “Mike” Ohley, 63, passed away at 8:08 AM on Thursday March 24, 2016 while at home with his family.

He was born on July 21, 1952 in Alton, the son of Herbert F. Ohley and Helen (Gillespie) Ohley. He married Yvonne (Krummelbein) Ohley on March 22, 1973.

He worked retail management at Central Hardware & Sears before retiring.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Matthew Ohley and his wife Brandy (Elkins) Ohley, Julie Ohley and her fiancé Kenneth Waggoner, and ten grandchildren: Noah, Faith, Lydia, Eden, Levi, and Silas Ohley; Maci and Mia Dobson; and Bella and Breckton Waggoner. Also surviving are his brother-in-law Charles Brake; nephews, nieces and their spouses William Brake and Gary Sides, Edward and Mary Brake, Daniel and Donna Bizaillion, John and Mindy Brake, Joy Brake, and their numerous children. Also to be included is his “adopted” granddaughter Nyssa (Vantrease) Gammaitoni.

He is furthermore survived by many in-laws who were dear to him: His wife’s parents Lavonn and Barbara Krummelbein, their children and spouses: James and Julie Smith, Steven and Vicki Krummelbein, and nephew and niece Bryon and Michelle Krummelbein.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patty Brake, and his nephew Charlie A. Brake.

Herb was an avid duck hunter and greatly enjoyed fishing and many other outdoor sports. He was a current member of the Callmakers and Collectors Association of America and had been involved in many other such organizations throughout his life. He shared a familial bond with all those men and women who also had a love for the outdoors.

Two goals of his were to fish Alaska and to embark on a “fly-in” fishing trip in Canada. He accomplished both of those things, with his wife by his side, before he passed.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Matt Ohley will officiate. Memorials may be made to the St. Louis University Liver Center.
