Shirley Griffin

Fieldon 06/14/2024

Shirley Ann Griffin, 66, passed away at 11:23 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2024 at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, following a brief battle with lung cancer.

She was born on May 17, 1958 in Jerseyville, one of five children born to the late John and Gladys (Karrick) Storey and graduated with the Class of 1977 from Jersey Community High School.

Shortly after graduating high school, she married Bill Scoggins, and from that union she was blessed with two children, Christopher William Scoggins and Stacey Lyn Scoggins.

She later married Jerry Griffin in Jerseyville in 1991, and together they were the parents of a son, James Lee Griffin. Throughout their married life, they resided in Greenfield for many years, where they purchased a farm. Shirley truly enjoyed all that farm living had to offer, and especially enjoyed helping Jerry tend to the cows. They then relocated to Arkansas and Tennessee, prior to settling back in Jersey County. Together, they shared in 20 years of marriage, prior to his death on July 18, 2011.

Shirley began her working career at Sandy’s Restaurant in Jerseyville and later went on to work at Midtown in Alton and White Spot in Jerseyville, in addition to spending a period of time working at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She enjoyed crafting, crocheting and was known for her love of animals. She enjoyed feeding all the animals and watching them flock to her yard, most especially the hummingbirds.

Her primary focus, however, was that of being a loving mother and a proud and doting grandmother. There was nothing that brought her greater joy than having all of her family together under one roof, no matter how big or small the occasion.

Surviving are three children, Christopher Scoggins and his wife, Holly, of O’Fallon, Missouri, Stacey Scoggins and her fiancé, Travis Abbott, of Jerseyville and James Griffin of Fieldon; five grandchildren, Whitney Fox of Jerseyville, Daisy Scoggins of O’Fallon, Missouri, Caleb Fox of Jerseyville, Elli Scoggins of O’Fallon, Missouri and Lyton Abbott of Carrollton; two brothers and sisters in-law, Kenny and Charis Storey and Darrell and Ann Storey, all of Fieldon; a sister, Blanche Gilman of California; as well as a brother in-law, Ray Enyard of Kansas City, Kansas.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Enyard and a brother in-law, Bill Gilman.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of Family Remembrances at 1p.m., Friday, June 21, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family, in care of the funeral home.
