Betty Jane Young, 94, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 11:39 a.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Granite City. She was born April 2, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Seaburn and Gladine (Martin) Short. She retired from the United States Government after many years of dedicated service as a secretary. Betty was a faithful and dedicated member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City. She never knew a stranger and cherished her love and special times shared with her family and friends. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Stephen Underkofler of Virginia; Kathy and Bob Stegemeier of Granite City and David A. and Christy Young of Granite City; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Jack Underkofler, Clare and Scott Stinson, Helen Underkofler, Brad and Lindsay Hutchings, Amanda and Keith Harris, Chloe and Anthoney Ragnetti, Nash Young, Cara Tindall and Madeline and Chris Giglio; seven great grandchildren, Fiona Giglio, Michael Giglio, Fallyn Harris, Laityn Harris, Suttyn Harris, Hayden Hutchings and Quinn Hutchings; two sisters, Barbara Dennison of St. Louis and Linda Davis of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Janet Short of Farmington, Missouri; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Donald D. Young; a daughter-in-law, Mary Underkofler and a brother, Ken Short.
