Joyce Settles

Joyce Ann Settles, 70, died early Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born on October 6, 1945 in Alton, she was the daughter of Edward and Sylvia L. (Shattuck) Walsh.  Following the death of her father, she was adopted by Milford Liley.

A graduate of East Alton Wood River High School, she was a secretary/receptionist, but her true passion was dedicating herself to her family and friends.  A unique soul, Joyce had a great sense of humor and a spunky personality.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, painting, music, genealogy and gardening.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Richard Settles; daughter, Tonya Meyers of Colorado; two sons, Kris (Natasha) Smith of Maryland Heights, MO, Greg (Wendy) Settles of South Roxana; grandchildren; great grandchildren; mother, Sylvia L. Liley-Wery of Union, MO; three brothers, Robert Liley, Richard (Brenda) Liley, Rodger Liley (John Napela); sister, Jeanette (Robert) Ackerman; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her father and step-father; and eldest son, Lonnie Smith, Jr.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m. Monday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

Private burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Joyce will be always remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, whose greatest passion was helping others.
